Constipation

Constipation is a condition of the digestive system where you experience having a bowel movement fewer than three times per week and is usually painful and dry because the slow movement of stool through the colon. Bowel movement occurrences depend on the person, diet, and daily exercise and activities, so if you do not have bowel movements everyday, that does not mean that you are constipated. It is most common in pregnant women, after childbirth or surgery, people with hormonal disorders, and adults 65 years of age and older. Some of the most common causes of constipation are lack of fiber in your diet, not enough physical activity, medication side effects, Improper chewing of food, milk, irritable bowel syndrome or other irritable bowel disorders, and dehydration.

Almost everyone has constipation at some point in their life so the tests that doctors perform greatly depends on the duration, severity, age, bloody stools, change in bowel habits, and weight loss. For mild constipation your physician may perform a physical exam that may include a rectal exam with a gloved, lubricated finger to evaluate the anus muscles and detect for tenderness, obstruction, or blood. Most people just need to change their diets, daily activities, discontinuing medication, and possibly laxatives for a temporary period of time. Extensive tests may be performed for those with severe symptoms and bloody stools such as colorectal transit study, anorectal function tests, barium enema x ray, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy, or a defocography.

Over the counter laxatives are by far the most common aid for constipation. Some symptoms related to constipation may include bloating, distention, abdominal pain, or a sense of incomplete emptying. Hemorrhoids and anal fissures may be caused by straining to have a bowel movement in chronic constipation. Consuming lots of liquids will prevent dehydration and may make the stool softer which makes bowel movements less painful. A diet with sufficient fiber will help the body form soft, bulky stool. High fiber foods include beans, whole grains, bran cereals, fresh fruits, and veggies. Low fiber foods to avoid or limit include ice cream, cheese, meat, and processed foods. Biofeedback training may also contribute to ease constipation.

Aloeluyah's AMP Aloe & E has natural detoxifying powers that ease constipation and cleanse the bowel.
